Adina serves as the Scholar in Residence at B’nai Jeshurun in New York City, a leading congregation recognized for its spiritual and social activism. She also founded Sha’ar Communities in Bergen County, New Jersey, which offers creative and diverse portals into Jewish life and fellowship, and new forms of membership and engagement as an effort to contribute to the evolving landscape of American Jewish identity. Adina is also a member of the senior rabbinic faculty of the Shalom Hartman Institute, and sits on the Board of Trustees of the Abraham Joshua Heschel School in NYC. Previously, Adina served as the Assistant Dean of the Rabbinical School at JTS, and founded a synagogue in Englewood, New Jersey, modeling shared leadership and collective communal responsibility. Adina regularly enjoys speaking engagements in the US and Canada and publishing essays on topics including Jewish identity, leadership, Jewish innovation, sexual/gender diversity, and contemporary Jewish spirituality. She is a leading voice in the conversation around intermarriage and multifaith/multiheritage Jewish family engagement. She is married to Andi Lewittes, and has four children and two stepchildren.
